In case you haven’t heard, there’s a new sheriff in town. Okay, I know, cheesy intro, but I’m talking about Epic Universe.
Epic Universe is Universal Orlando Resort’s latest and most significant addition. It’s shaping up to be their most ambitious theme park yet, and it will be the most exciting theme park to come to Florida in a long time.
This theme park will feature five immersive lands, each transporting visitors to unique worlds packed with incredible attractions and experiences. These lands include Celestial Park, The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Ministry of Magic, Super Nintendo World, How to Train Your Dragon – Isle of Berk, and Dark Universe.
Now, I’m guessing if you’re reading this, you already knew all that. So, let’s dive into what Universal just announced.
What is the Official Opening Day for Epic Universe?
Okay, let’s cut to the chase. We finally have the official opening day for Epic Universe. Universal has announced that Epic Universe will open on May 22, 2025.
Yes, that’s right. May 22, 2025, is the day we’ve all been waiting for. It feels so close yet so far away. We all expected the park to open sometime next summer, but having an official date is excellent news. Let the countdown begin now!
May 22, 2025
Now that we know the date, we might think we can buy tickets, show up on day one, and dive into one of the most epic adventures you can have in the Sunshine State.
In a perfect world, that would be amazing. But unfortunately, there’s more to the story.
When Do Tickets Go on Sale for Epic Universe?
Tickets go on sale starting October 22, 2024. The wait is almost over. I’m excited about this and can’t wait to grab my Epic Universe tickets.
However, there’s a catch; there’s always a catch.
Universal says Epic Universe tickets aren’t available as standalone purchases. Instead, they are part of a multi-day ticket package.
For example, one option includes a three-day ticket, which allows you to visit Universal Studios Florida, Universal Islands of Adventure, and Epic Universe. However, you can spend only one day at each park.
Prices for these packages range from $118-$174 per day, depending on the season, bringing the total cost to $352-$521 for the complete package.
Ouch, those prices are already hurting my wallet.
Whether this is a good or bad thing depends on your perspective. But let me share my thoughts on it.
Epic Universe Opening Announcement Pros and Cons
Universal’s opening day announcement has its pros and cons. I’m concerned about whether the ticket packages are a good deal. So, here’s how I feel about it.
Why Epic Universe’s Opening Day Announcement is Exciting for Theme Park Fans
The wait is almost over. We finally have a date for when the park opens, and tickets go on sale. Starting on October 22, 2024, we can begin planning our vacations for May 2025. I love that Universal is giving us the chance to purchase tickets so far in advance. It will provide us with plenty of time to plan our trip.
One significant value is the chance to explore all of Universal’s theme parks in one trip. You can spend one day at Universal Studios Florida, another day at Universal Islands of Adventure, and finish with a day at Epic Universe. The older theme parks are still a great place to go, offering rides like Jurassic World VelociCoaster.
Universal may have learned from its poor launch of Universal Islands of Adventure. I remember that launch back in May 1999. The park was so packed that you couldn’t even walk around to get to rides. It could have been a better experience for everyone. Universal may be keeping attendance to a controlled number since you can only go to Epic Universe for one day.
Now, you have a solid reason to dedicate your entire vacation to Universal Orlando Resort, which is precisely what Universal needs to stay competitive against Disney World. It’s worth the money if you plan to visit all the parks simultaneously.
But what if you don’t want to visit the other parks? What if you’re a local like me and want to go to Epic Universe?
What if you already have a season pass and don’t need tickets to the other parks? Why should you be forced to buy tickets for parks you don’t plan to visit just to get access to Epic Universe?
That’s where I see the downside to this announcement.
The Drawbacks of Epic Universe’s Opening Day Announcement
Let’s start with the pricing. The price isn’t an issue if you plan to visit each Universal theme park. It’s a fair cost when you include a brand-new theme park experience. Here at Explore Sunshine State, we will mention good deals when we see them.
My genuine concern is that Epic Universe tickets are only available as part of a bundle. At the time of writing, Universal only offers tickets to Epic Universe within a multi-day package. There are no single-day tickets for purchase.
The 3-day package costs between $352 and $521 per person, which is steep if you were hoping for a single-day pass.
What about season pass holders?
Some rumors suggest that Epic Universe won’t have a season pass for its first year, while others say that current pass holders can purchase single-day tickets to Epic Universe in the future.
But those are just rumors. At least we have some official news. For now, packages are the only way to secure your Epic Universe tickets.
Hopefully, Universal will introduce more package options soon. One that fits your plans better than the current offering.
What’s Next For Epic Universe?
As we approach Epic Universe’s grand opening, Universal will likely release more details. These could include sneak previews, additional attractions, or dining and shopping options within the park.
Universal already gave us a clue that the theme park will be open to preview for some lucky individuals before May 22, 2025. That would be amazing if I were one of those people.
Final Thoughts On The Epic Universe Journey Ahead
With the official opening date set and tickets going on sale soon, Epic Universe is shaping up to be a game-changer for Universal Orlando Resort. It may even make Universal the best theme park in Florida.
Whether you’re excited about exploring all the parks in one trip or are hesitant about the bundled ticket pricing, this is a significant milestone for theme park fans.
While there are still some unknowns, especially for season pass holders, we can expect more updates and options as we get closer to the grand opening. For now, it’s all about planning and getting ready for what could be one of the most exciting new theme parks in Florida. Stay tuned for more updates as we approach May 2025.
Price Update
Once the tickets went live, I quickly waited in the queue. There was about a 45-minute wait. Universal was able to give you that ride experience by showing you what it may look like to wait in line queue on opening day, haha.
Updated 10/22/24: Prices for Packages
Updated 10/24/24: Passholder Specials – Annual and season passholders can now buy one-day Epic Universe tickets.
How does it work?
New Passholders can purchase your choice of annual or season passes. You can then add a one-day Epic Universe ticket before checking out.
Current Passholders must first link their annual or season pass to their account. After doing so, you can add a one-day Epic Universe ticket before checking out.
Finally, some great news. Hopefully soon they will open up one-day Epic Universe tickets to everyone. This way local residents can do to the newest theme park without paying for any extra add-ons.
Be sure to check back with Explore Sunshine State for updates as we follow the exciting developments surrounding Epic Universe.
